WHO WE ARE
The National Native American Chamber of Commerce was established in 2008 in response to an overwhelming need within the Native American and veteran community for sustainable integration into the U.S. economy as employees and business owners.

THE NEED
More than 26,000 Native Americans reside in the Kansas City metro. Of that number, approximately 68 percent live at or below the poverty line. In addition, many returning veterans are having difficulty reintegrating into the workforce. The declining availability of employment opportunities, lack of workforce training, dwindling public support for business startups and reduced public assistance have hit both veterans and the Native American community particularly hard.

The NNACC is addressing this need in our community through a three-pronged effort that includes:

  • Creation of a business incubator program focusing on emerging Native American-owned and veteran-owned small businesses.
  • Job-skills training programs for Native Americans, veterans and other participants.
  • Transitional housing to be available as needed to individuals participating in job training or business development programs.

2011 Partnership Award
Partnerships are crucial throughout our country as we promote and improve diversity in all walks of life. The NNACC collaborates with business leaders to develop solutions to meet America's industry demands, tackle the issue of workforce preparedness and reinvigorate America's human talent to remain competitive, not just in Kansas City but nationwide.

Selection Criteria: Since 2008, the Kola (Partnership/Friendship) Award presented by the National Native American Chamber of Commerce has recognized innovative partnerships between the Native American business community and local business leaders.

2011 Outstanding Volunteer Award
Volunteers are essential to the ongoing success of the NNACC. The Outstanding Volunteer Award was created to commend one hard-working volunteer who has given considerable time and effort in supporting many different services provided by the NNACC and has had a positive impact across the Native American community.

Selection Criteria: The Volunteer Award honors a volunteer who has given much time and effort to many different services provided by the NNACC in the field of community and business relationships. Volunteers reach out to people on the fringes of our society and help build their sense of belonging, their self confidence and provide the support needed to help people fully participate in the social and economic life of the community. They give life to our community and organization.

2011 Community Leader Award
It is true that you can identify a leader by how well the followers perform. However, a truly superior leader is one who recognizes the responsibility of empowering others to lead. At no other time in our history has it been more critical for Native Americans to develop and maintain solid, meaningful relationships with the business community. To that end, the National Native American Chamber of Commerce created an innovative Leadership Initiative Award.
